Two Sundays Left to Catch Palisade's Farmer's Market

If you've been meaning to make it out to the Palisade Farmer's Market, which runs every Sunday through October 4th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the season is down to its final couple of weekends. That's not a lot of time left to wander Main Street with a coffee and come home with a bag of the last of the season's produce.

Fall is when the market is arguably at its best. Grape season is winding down after Colorado Mountain Winefest closed out its 35th year in Palisade last week, and local orchards are deep into apple and pear harvest — the kind of U-pick trip that turns into an afternoon rather than a quick errand. Vendors selling both are usually set up within a few stalls of each other, along with the usual mix of local honey, baked goods, and crafts.

It's a small thing, but it says something about what living here actually looks like day to day. Palisade is a fifteen-minute drive from downtown Grand Junction, close enough that "I'll run out to the farmer's market Sunday morning" is a normal sentence and not a special occasion. That kind of easy access to an actual working agricultural town, wineries included, is part of what makes the Grand Valley feel different from a lot of other places buyers compare it to.

If you've never been, this is a good excuse. Park on Main Street, walk the market, then wander into one of the tasting rooms or grab lunch at one of the restaurants nearby. Two Sundays left before it wraps for the year — September 28 (today, if you can get out there) and October 4th.
