Pints, Pedals, and a Pretty Serious Brewery Scene in Grand Junction

Grand Junction has quietly become a beer town. On Saturday, November 14, the Grand Valley Brew Runs "Mustache Run" 5K sets off from Handlebar Tap House at 417 Monument Road at 10:30 a.m., a Movember-themed run/walk that raises awareness for men's cancer and mental health, with a Best Stache contest and an after-party back at the taproom.

It's a good excuse to talk about how deep the local brewing bench has gotten. Rockslide Brewery & Restaurant has been pouring in a historic downtown building since 1994, making it one of the older breweries in Colorado. Out in Palisade, Palisade Brewing has been at it since 2010, and its Dirty Hippie dark wheat is about as close as the valley comes to a house beer. Kannah Creek has been brewing since 2005, and the newer names keep arriving: Base Camp Beer Works makes "Vine Beers" brewed with wine grapes, Gemini Beer Co. settled into the historic Lowell School in 2023, and WestCo Brewing opened last October in south Grand Junction with a big lawn made for events.

What I like about this scene is how local it is. Wine grapes in the beer, a former schoolhouse as a taproom, a trail-gear hub with cocktails next door. It all feels like the valley's own ingredients and buildings, rather than a copy of what's happening in Denver.

For anyone weighing a move here, that's the kind of thing a listing never captures. A handful of taprooms within a few minutes of downtown, run-club nights, live music, and food trucks make a regular Saturday feel easy and social. Plenty of the best of it sits right on or near the bike paths, so a short ride to a taproom is a realistic plan, not just a daydream.

If you're curious how any of these areas fit your day-to-day, I'm always happy to talk neighborhoods.
