4 Tips for Choosing a Realtor

You’re about to buy a new home. You’ve scouted the various neighborhoods that interest you, and you’ve done a little bit of window-shopping for homes, so you know what you’re looking for. Now, it’s time to choose a realtor. Don’t rush this decision. It’s not one you should make lightly. Follow these four basic tips for choosing the right realtor.

    1. Check Licensing

All realtors must be licensed, but that doesn’t mean the one you’re considering is current. Check with your state’s real estate licensing board to ensure that he or she has the right licensing.

    1. Speak with Previous Clients

There’s nothing quite like getting it from the horse’s mouth, and in the world of real estate, that means talking with past clients. Did the realtor show them homes in their price range? Did he or she put pressure on them to buy a particular home? Did the realtor listen to their needs and find homes that matched those perfectly?

    1. Time in Business

There’s nothing inherently wrong with choosing to work with the “new kid”, but there’s a lot to be gained from working with a realtor with plenty of experience. Find out how long your prospective agent has been in business. The longer they’ve been working the real estate industry, the more experienced they’ll be at matching clients with homes.

    1. Knows the Area

Ask the realtor about homes for sale nearby that aren’t necessarily part of his or her listings. A real estate agent worth your time will “have an ear to the ground” so to speak, meaning they keep up to date with properties in the area that aren’t part of their portfolio. The more they know about your specific area, the better they’ll be at finding you your dream home.

These simple tips will help ensure that you make an informed decision when choosing a realtor.

That’s a good idea to not rush it when you’re looking for a real estate agent. Buying a home is a big investment and you want to make sure that the person who helps you find a place knows their stuff. It’s very important to make sure that they have the right licenses and job knowledge. I’ll have to see if I can check previous clients and get their reviews.

I have been looking forward to buying a home for a while now. Speaking with previous clients is a good idea. Knowing what the realtor did previously, will help me in deciding if he/she will be a good fit.

My husband is looking for a house to buy so that we can start our family. Checking a realtor and making sure they are licensed is a great idea, so that you can know they are trustworthy. Something else to consider is to get a realtor that you like and can communicate easily with. That way you can trust them to help you find the house of your dreams.
