- Check Licensing
All realtors must be licensed, but that doesn’t mean the one you’re considering is current. Check with your state’s real estate licensing board to ensure that he or she has the right licensing.
- Speak with Previous Clients
There’s nothing quite like getting it from the horse’s mouth, and in the world of real estate, that means talking with past clients. Did the realtor show them homes in their price range? - Time in Business
There’s nothing inherently wrong with choosing to work with the “new kid”, but there’s a lot to be gained from working with a realtor with plenty of experience. Find out how long your prospective agent has been in business. The longer they’ve been working the real estate industry, the more experienced they’ll be at matching clients with homes.
- Knows the Area
Ask the realtor about homes for sale nearby that aren’t necessarily part of his or her listings. A real estate agent worth your time will “have an ear to the ground” so to speak, meaning they keep up to date with properties in the area that aren’t part of their portfolio. The more they know about your specific area, the better they’ll be at finding you your dream home.
